Reasons why purchasing on the margin is a must in the forex market

In the beginning, only banks and hedge funds could trade in the forex market. This was due to high amounts of money the banks were trading in. No average investor could afford it. Only lately have investors been able to participate in the forex market. This is due to them purchasing currencies on the margin.

One lot in the forex market is $100,000. There is a high amount of money exchanging hands in the forex market. This is due to the many valuable trait’s the forex market has to offer. For example, the market is open 24 hours a day, 5 days a week; there are many forms to reduce risk in the market (stops); it is fairly easy to come in and out of the market because it is highly liquid. Lastly, the market is very volatile.

Since average investors have only recently taken to trading in the forex market, transactions made through brokers have changed. Original lots were $100,000 each. Now there are mini lots. A mini lot is $10,000. If an investor wanted to trade in the forex market through a broker, they would be required to give the broker a collateral. This would be $1,000 or 1% of the lot. Brokers require the $1,000 if there is a loss of capital. The broker will then put the $1,000 in the investors account just in case there is any loss of capital.

When average investors decided to trade in the forex market, they tend to take out loans from banks. With any loan, there is always interest. Thus, on top of the risk of losing money through the forex market, investors also have to add the payment of interest into the mix. However, as an average investor, it becomes necessary to take out loans when participating in the forex market. This is referred to as leveraged financing. Leveraged financing has allowed to forex market to expand to new heights.

Losses are inevitable in the forex market. Especially since it is so volatile. Brokers shut down their accounts as soon as the margin is consumed. However, it is recommended that stops are used on all orders placed in the forex market. This is to limit the losses incurred by investors. When stops are not place on orders, the investor can lose up to $100,000. In other words, they can lose the size of their lot.

Thus, the importance of stops being placed on orders can not be stressed upon more. It reduces the amount an investor can lose in any of their orders in the forex market. Stops limit loses and continues to benefit the investor by granting them to gain profits at the same time. As well as that, margins are a must for investors in the forex market.

This article has shown the importance of margins and leveraging relating to the forex market for average investors. As well as that, it has explained the importance of placing stops on orders.

How to trade currencies with less risk

Testing out currency pairs is the cornerstone of forex trading. To do this a plan must first be kept in place. The use of the plan allows the trader to examine which currency pair reacts the best and allows for higher profits. For example, if USD/CHF, GBP/USD and EUR/USD were tested using the plan, and the results showed that USD/CHF had reacted positively, this currency pair is concentrated on more than the others.

The first rule of trading currencies is to never enter into a trade without researching on it. The forex market is based around researching the market and analyzing the different currency pairs available to exchange. It is recommended that each trader have a plan in place before entering the forex market. However, each plan must be tested before entering the market. This can be done through demo accounts.

Another rule when it comes to trading currencies is to never trade a currency pair which the trader does not know about. Trading involves many risks. As well as that, it is understandable that there are many currency pairs available to trade with that it may be overwhelming. However, it is not advised that a trader just pick any currency pair to trade with. High amounts of money can be lost through this form of thinking. By pre-testing currency pairs, it allows the trader to have a fair idea of how each one works. Thus, going for predictable currency pairs is always the best option.

Each currency pair reacts differently to outside influences. For example, some currency pairs can be effected by government deficits or surpluses, whilst others won’t be greatly effected by it. Fundamental analysis allows a trader to determine which currency pairs are effected and which one’s aren’t. Each pair is unpredictable in their own way. Thus, by using the information found through fundamental analysis and testing out currency pairs in demo accounts, a trader can get a fair idea of each pair reacts in certain situations.

Technical analysis is also a major key to testing out each currency pair. It has been shown, through vast amounts of research, that some currency pairs differences can be found more easily then others through technical analysis. For example, through moving averages, money flow index’s and relative strength index’s. However, finding these differences through technical analysis is not an easy thing to do. Only experiences traders are able to find the little differences.

Since each currency pair is different, it is up to the trader to find the one that suits them best. The currency pair that is chosen, should allow them to meet their goals when it comes to the forex market. As well as that, it should suit their personality and the situation that they are in. For example, a trader that only does trading as a side-job. This would limit the amount of time they can spend on the forex market. Thus, they would need a low-risk currency pair, which doesn’t need constant surveillance and is fairly predictable. The use of a mentor can also help a trader. The mentor can examine a trader and their personality and based on their years of experience and judgment skills, can give educated advice to the trader.

This article has shown the importance of developing a plan when it comes to trading currencies. As well as that, ways in which each currency is different and how they can be effected by outside influences.

Stock Market Position Sizing

Position sizing determines the amount of currency you wish to put into a stock trade. It is part of money management for an investor. Money management has many different types of calculations to help an investor determine how much money they are going to lose. Position sizing is the main aspect of money management.

Just because an investor has a stop loss in place, it does not mean that they have covered position sizing. Having a stop loss in place simply allows a trader’s stock to be removed if a certain position is reached. However, with a stop loss the trader loses the highest amount of money. With position sizing, it allows the trader to determine how much units of stock they are capable of purchasing. This in turn, allows the trader to minimise the amount of money they can lose.

By determining the traders stop loss and their maximum loss on a stock, they can use these two figures to determine, without going over their maximum loss, the amount of shares they are able to buy. The calculation is as follows; the maximum loss is divided by the stop loss size. This gives the trader the amount of shares they are capable of buying.

The difference between the traders entry price and their stop loss value is what a stop loss size is. For example, if the trader entered the stock market for two dollars, with a stop loss value of one-dollar ten cents, their stop loss size is ninety cents. By using this formula, a trader can limit the amount of risk of over buying shares, which can exceed their maximum loss.

An example of this formula; with a trading float of $10,000, and a trader risking 3%, their maximum loss is $300. The market entry price is for example two dollars, with a stop loss value of one dollar ten cents, thus the stop size is ninety cents. To determine the amount of shares the trader can buy without exceeding their maximum loss, the maximum loss is divided by the stop size. Thus, $300 is divided by ninety cents, which allows the trader to buy 334 shares. The use of this formula is the confirm the security of the float.

If a trader wishes to incorporate their brokerage fee into the maximum loss, it is possible. The formula for this is to subtract the brokerage fee from the maximum loss. An example of this is, if the brokerage fee was $50 and the maximum loss was $300, the new maximum loss would $250. The $250 is then used in the above formula which decides the amount of shares the trader can purchase.

Limiting the amount of loses made is an important aspect of trading. Position sizing helps a trader with this. This article has explained the benefits of position sizing and the ways in which to incorporate it. As well as that, ways in which to confirm the security of a traders float have been explained.

Stock Market Trading Styles - Scalping, Momentum Trading, Swing Trading and Trend Trading.

There are a number of stock market trading styles that different kind of traders use. There is no best kind of style, but each is suited to a trader’s needs and situation. The following are a few of the styles that are common in the market. There are generally four primary stock market trading styles. These are swing trading, trend trading, momentum trading and scalping.

Choosing which style you wish to use depends on your situation. An investor’s time frame is the main aspect to look at when deciding which style is best for them. The correct pairing of trading style and pairing will ensure you are profitable in your efforts in the stock market. This ranges from the aggressive day traders to the conservative long-term-investors.

Scalping
Scalping are trades that are done (bought and sold) during a very short period of time. This can mean that a buy and sell in just a matter of minutes. Each trade makes very small margins but a trader generally would make many transactions in a day. Scalpers, usually aim for high volume stocks which are liquid. They try to buy on daily lows and sell immediately when the stock goes up. It is also a good method for investors who do not have a lot of capital and reuse their capital n every trade.

Momentum Trading
Momentum trading is when a trader sees a stock price picking up and joins it. The investor will take a short or long position in the stock anticipating that the momentum of the stock will continue. This is generally how bubbles grow, due to many traders jumping onto an accelerating stock. Investing period for momentum trading is around a day.

Swing Trading
The general time frame for swing trading is one to four days. This is most common among mom and dad investors. Stocks are often chosen on the basis of technical analysis. Swing traders generally have the advantage of not having too much competition form major traders. Technical analysis I used to looked for indicators of short term price movements. Swing traders rarely do any fundamental analysis as they are looking for short term fluctuations. The majority of their decisions are based on price trends and patterns.

Trend Trading
The time frame for trend traders is around a month. This looks at a securities’ long-term momentum direction. As investors are holding the stock for longer there is a greater deal of risk involved. It is wise for trend traders to do fundamental and technical analysis on the stock. The main indicators that trend traders look for are higher highs. This indicates that a stock is trending upward.

It is very important for a trader to choose the correct style of trading depending on their time frame. Each requires a totally different kind of analysis and each style of trader will have a different set of securities in their portfolio. There are risks associated with all styles with Trend Trading being the riskiest and Scalping being the safest.

Futures Trading in the Forex Market

Futures trading in the Forex market is a very profitable field. Trading futures requires looking at different aspects compared to regular Forex trading. Investors look into areas like history and objective views. Other aspects that set both fields apart are fees, margin necessities, liquidity, practicality, and the technical and informational resources available for each service.

Regular Forex vs. Futures Trading
Futures trading is said to be more viable then regular Forex trading. The futures market is generally more liquid and is often said to be more profitable for traders. It is however more complicated to analyse then regular currency trading. One of the main advantages with futures trading is that there are no commissions and the depth of information available from agencies and available websites.

Futures Trading in Currencies vs. Futures Trading in the Stock Market
In the stock market it is necessary to engage all trading through a broker or agent in matters of transactions and also receiving price quotes. Futures trading in Forex however have no middleman or agent so these costs are absent. This in turn increases investor’s margins and decreases losses if incurred. These extra brokerage fees do skim away at investor profits and can add up to a significant amount for high volume traders.

Investors are advised to make portfolios to track past investments and track profits on various trades done. This serves as a tracker to allow investors to speculate on future investments.

Both futures generally work in the same manner. The key difference is that Forex futures are not traded in a centralized exchange, instead it is available in many different exchanges around the world. The majority of Forex futures are however done through the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and its partnering brokers.

Investors who wish to preview past market trends can visit Forex charts which aid in forecasting future results. Trend forecasting can never be 100% accurate and returns are not always guaranteed but this is common for any kind of trading. This is why it is important for investors to continually monitor “predicting oscillators” in the charts to anticipate swings and fluctuations.

Despite there being no commission or transaction fees traders and investors will still lose a bit of their margin in the spread. The spread is the percentage difference in the buying and selling price of currencies. This is common in both regular Forex Trading and Forex futures trading. However Forex futures trading is still considered the most lucrative form of trading according to research.

Both futures trading in stocks and currencies have their upsides and downfalls. Research and assessment show that futures trading in currencies are far less volatile then stock market trading. This, both reduces the chances for high profits or high losses. Risk-averse traders may find more comfort in Forex futures trading as a result of this. It is also shown to be more profitable in the long run compared to the stock market. It is also used by many to hedge currency fluctuations.
